His Holiness Pope Blessed Pius IX (in Latin Pius Nonus) is the Pope number 255 of the Catholic Church.

Giovanni Maria Mastai Ferretti was born in Senigallia, Ancona, in the current country of Italy.

The Holy Father Blessed Pius IX initiated his pontificate in the year 1846. He succeeded Pope Gregory XVI. His papacy lasted for 32 years, ending during the year 1878. He was succeeded by Leo XIII, who would become the following bishop of Rome.
