The pope Symmachus

His Holiness Pope Symmachus (in Latin Symmachus) is the Pope number 51 of the Catholic Church.

was born in Cerdeña, in the current country of Italy.

The Holy Father Symmachus initiated his pontificate in the year 498. He succeeded Pope Anastasius II. His papacy lasted for 16 years, ending during the year 514. He was succeeded by Hormisdas, who would become the following bishop of Rome.
